WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

Curious about customisation? Always wanted to embroider your own designs onto different types of clothing or merchandise? Come and learn how it's done in this 1 day class brought to you by Bobbin and Ink with support from our good friends at Brother Australia.

This class is for anyone wanting to learn skills in machine embroidery to create custom decorated fabric products. It's also for anyone interested in the basics of operating commercial embroidery machines with multiple needles and threads. Whether you're a hobbyist, starting a brand, an illustrator, designer, fashion student, anyone who works in a print or signage shop or similar industry interested in learning how these big machines work and how to put designs onto clothing with thread, this class will get you thinking about the infinite possibilities of embroidery.

We'll show you different fabric stabilisers, embroidery threads, hoops and techniques for monogramming uniforms, labeling clothes or stitching custom images directly onto a range of pre-sewn products. The cost of the class includes a free t-shirt, tote bag, cap and towel to play with on the day. Experience using an embroidery machine is not necessary to attend, the day will cater primarily to aquainting beginner/intermediate embroiderers with how to hoop and set up a machine but advanced embroiderers who need guidance in handling trickier fabrics are also encouraged to attend. Take home some great customised merch that can double as gifts for friends and family.

Please Note: We won't have time in this one day class to show you how to use embroidery software to design your own images from scratch, but you will have time to explore a range of fonts and designs within the machine library and the Brother Artspira App. If you have a simple design or custom logo in mind that you would like to stitch out on the day, we can convert it to an embroidery file for you before class, if enough time is allowed. If you have pre-existing embroidery files, we can also take a look at those, though depending on the size of the design there may not be time to stitch it out. Email us before booking if you have any questions about this.

Bobbin and Ink is an LGBTQI+ safe space and this course welcomes women, men and anyone identifying otherwise. This class is suitable for students aged 16 and up.

MORE DETAILS:

The class runs from 10am - 4pm across 1 day with a lunch break and tea breaks. With a maximum number of 8 students per class, you'll get comforting one-on-one time with your knowledgeable teacher, Laura Walsh of Bobbin and Ink.

We will be using Brother PR680W 6 needle embroidery machines for this class, thanks to the kind support of Brother Australia who have loaned us a few of their machines to run on the day. We will discuss using different models and brands of machines for those who have or may be looking at purchasing their own machines eventually, but this is not a requirement to attend. Bobbin and Ink are retailers of Brother, PFAFF and Singer machines but we service all makes and models so please don't be discouraged from attending if you don't have a Brother machine (or any embroidery machine). If you have any questions regarding purchasing or general machine enquiries, please let us know via email.
