WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

This workshop will show you how to create embroidered designs using any sewing machine. You'll start by learning the basics of free motion stitching using a regular sewing machine, how to stabilise fabric to stop it crinkling and warping and how to select and work with decorative threads to manually create different stitch effects.

After a lunch break we'll take a close look at digital embroidery machines and experiment with stitching out a variety of embroidery files and designs. This class provides an overview and history of creating decorative stitches using sewing machines. The aim is to give you confidence in tackling your own machine embroidery projects, no matter what kind of machine you own. It's a perfect primer for anyone with a new embroidery machine or thinking of purchasing a new or used embroidery machine.

Everyone will have a chance to work on a regular sewing machine and a digital embroidery machine in this class, to give you a taste of the many ways embroidery can be created with use of a machine, as an alternative to hand stitching. Digitising custom embroidery files will be briefly discussed, but not in great detail due to the time constraints of the class.

Intermediate and advanced students who wish to broaden their hooping, stitching and stabilising skills are welcome. You'll be guided through the whole machine embroidery process from learning to use a regular sewing machine to do free motion embroidery, to how a machine that can take digitised embroidery files works. With a maximum number of 6 students per class, you'll get more one-on-one time with your teacher.
